SUNDAY 29TH DECEMBER 2013 - Pre-Entry NOW OPEN!
The SPAM Winter Challenge is a Mountain Bike Enduro run on the hard pack, all weather trails of Salisbury Plain. As a descendant of the original Salisbury Plain Challenge, this is the original Winter MTB Event. CX bikes are now also welcome!
For 2013 we are back in our traditional slot between Christmas and New Year, so come and work off your Christmas dinner and build up a thirst for the New Year celebrations.
The event is quite relaxed, but you can always find some healthy competition, and the riding is not particularly technical ...... The CHALLENGE arises as you try to battle whatever weather conditions roll in. This event has seen snow, heavy frosts and just good old mud in the past - but the all weather course can cope with it all. Who knows what 2013 has in store?! *
* Please note: The event will only be cancelled in severe weather conditions where we are concerned for safety of the riders. We will post details of cancellation here, so if you are at all concerned, check here before you travel. If nothing is posted here, the event is ON!
Three route options are offered so the event is suitable for riders of all abilities including children (we suggest over 8's who have some experience of off-road riding) who can undertake either the 25km or (for teenagers) 35km routes, providing they are with an accompanying adult. There is also a family entry available for the 25km route (2 adults and up to 4 children, under 16 years).
All routes are open to grown ups!
There will be lots of marshals out on the course to take care of you should you need any assistance, as well as professional medics in case you have an accident.
At the event base we will have good quality food; Bertie Maffoons of Marlborough for spares and kit and plenty of parking. Water and toilets also available (water is limited to containers as there is no mains, so if you can bring your own, please do).
Proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities. In previous years our main beneficiaries have been Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Help For Heroes and the Army Benevolant Fund, plus a number of local schools and pre-schools, Salisbury Hospital and The Lion's Club to name but a few.
